In the late 1990s, I proposed The Oxidative-dysoxygenative Model of Insulin Dysfunction in a series of articles entitled Beyond insulin resistance and syndrome X: The oxidative-dysoxygenative insulin dysfunction (ODID) Model. I recognized that a new integrated unifying model was needed to explain how the toxicities of food, environments, and thoughts set the stage for insulin receptor dysfunction, insulin resistance, hyperinsulinemia, the metabolic syndrome, prediabtes and diabetes. In subsequent publications, I presented clinical and laboratory for the impairment of oxygen’s myriad roles in the etiology of diabetes. Specifically, I defined dysoxygenosis (dysox) as energy and detox failure, I recognize other biochemical defects (and their clinical consequences) caused by blocked oxygen functions in the body, including:

*  Oxygen-driven cellular energetics,

*  Oxygen-driven cellular development and multiplication,

*  Oxygen-driven removal of cellular grease (oxygen’s detergent functions),

*  Oxygen-activation of the enzyme systems of the body,

*  Oxygen-driven cellular detox mechanisms.

Pandemic of Diabetes Type 2

Diabetes Type 2 is now a full-blown pandemic. Diabetes Type 1 in children is well on its way to becoming a pandemic. The incidence of Type 2 diabetes in children, extremely low until recently, is also leapfrogging. These rises correlate directly with incremental global chemicalization that pollutes the air, contaminates water, and perverts foods.

In March 2006, the Ceylon Medical Journal reported that in 1990 the prevalence of Type-2 diabetes was 2.5% and it had risen to 14.2% among males and 13.5% among females by 2005. A few decades ago, the prevalence of diabetes in Papua New Guinea was reported to be "virtually 0%" whereas recent surveys show that type 2 diabetes has become a common disease in the islands. Similar trends in the incidence of diabetes have been reported from various African and and Asian countries.
